Giants and Giant-kin
Giants and Giant-Kin are composed of a variety of races that are much larger than the ‘civilized’ races. They tend to be organized into smaller bands and are often separated from the civilized races, living in remote locations or on the edges of society. Still there are enough of them that incursions into ‘civilized’ lands are relatively common. Notable groups include;
- Ogres-Perhaps the most prolific of the Giant-Kin races. Ogres, while not very intelligent, are large and physically strong and congregate in small bands or tribes. They often end up associated with goblin tribes, either as hired muscled, or as over-lords, depending on the intelligence and relative strength of the Goblin band. Because of this prevalence, random Ogre attacks are common in many rural area’s.
- Trolls-Far less common than Ogres, but far more dangerous. They are most common in the eastern mountains, but varying groups are also common in some of the Marshes. Tribal, fierce, and territorial, trolls survive because they are so hard to kill and seldom venture out into the world. Most troll encounters are with a single individual forced out from it’s band who wanders into human lands.
- True Giants-There are several breeds of ‘True’ giants, most seeming to have some specific geographic or physical adaption. The reasons for this are not entirely clear, though there are various fanciful mythological stories to explain them, and of the Giants have just as many of these as humans do. How many branches of the Giant family there are isn’t known; the Stone Giants of the Mountains and the Frost Giants of the Northern reaches are the two most commonly known, but there are dozens of other reported types.
